The creator of Saints Row believes Grand Theft Auto VI should cost $100, calling it a once-in-a-generation game whose scale and ambition justify the price. As Rockstar continues development on one of the most anticipated titles in history, the debate over how much GTA 6 should cost is heating up.
Rockstar Games is presently putting effort into making Grand Theft Auto VI, scheduled to arrive this May 2026 — over a decade since the last one came out. With the amount of time and money Rockstar has poured into the game, it’s tough to say just how much the game will cost when all is said and done. If the creator of Saints Row is correct, however, GTA 6 should cost $100.
Speculation and discussions about what Grand Theft Auto VI will cost are well underway. Recently, though, Saints Row design director Chris Stockman weighed in on the topic. Speaking to Esports Insider, the developer discussed possible game price increases after GTA 6 hits the market.
Stockman said few studios could justify charging $100 for a game — but Rockstar could, and would likely get away with it. He added he believes GTA 6 deserves that price.
“I don’t think it’s a general trend. I think if everyone switched to $100, there would be massive backlash. Not all games are the same. I think GTA is the only one that could get away with it, and I hope they do. I really hope the price is $100. I think it deserves to be $100. That is a price absolutely justified by the scale and scope of that project — but not everything should be treated as equal. It would be a disaster if everyone tried to match them.”
