Rockstar Games has already treated fans to two cinematic trailers for Grand Theft Auto VI, but when it comes to concrete details, the studio remains characteristically tight-lipped. Most of what we know so far comes from leaks, whispers, and insider chatter — and according to the latest reports, GTA 6 might feature the longest single-player campaign Rockstar has ever made.
According to GTA 6 Updates on X (formerly Twitter), an unnamed insider claims the story mode will take more than 75 hours to complete. The campaign will reportedly be split into six parts — a short prologue followed by five main chapters, with the fourth chapter being the most expansive.
Here’s the breakdown of the estimated playtime:
-
Prologue: ~2 hours
-
Chapter 1: ~6 hours
-
Chapter 2: ~13 hours
-
Chapter 3: ~16 hours
-
Chapter 4: ~22 hours
-
Chapter 5: ~16 hours
Interestingly, the insider adds that the final section of the story will take players beyond the borders of the United States, and that this part of development reportedly demanded the most time and resources from Rockstar’s team.
If these claims turn out to be true, GTA 6 could easily become the studio’s most ambitious narrative experience to date. For context, according to data from HowLongToBeat, the main story of GTA 5 takes roughly 32 hours to finish, while GTA 4 clocks in at around 27 hours.
And that’s just the main campaign. These numbers don’t factor in any side activities, mini-games, or optional content — all of which are practically guaranteed to fill GTA 6’s world to the brim. If even half of these rumors hold up, players could be looking at one of the longest and most content-packed open-world adventures ever made.
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While Rockstar has yet to confirm a PC release, most expect it to arrive within a year of the console debut — continuing the studio’s long-standing release pattern.
