Nearly 10,000 developers are said to be working on Grand Theft Auto 6, with a major share of the talent coming from Rockstar India — a studio that has quietly become one of the company’s biggest production hubs.
Rockstar Games officially lists over 6,000 employees worldwide, with offices stretching from New York to London, but when factoring in contractors, temporary staff, and external partners, the number climbs closer to 10,000. Among all branches, Rockstar India now leads in size, employing more than 1,600 developers directly involved in GTA 6. For comparison, Rockstar North reportedly has around 1,285 staff, while Rockstar Lincoln operates with about 910.

The Indian division has long supported Rockstar’s flagship titles, but this time, it’s taken on a central role. Teams there handle everything from 3D modeling and environment design to animation, physics, and quality assurance. Many developers are also integrated into global cross-studio teams, helping bring GTA 6’s massive open world to life. With reports suggesting that the game’s ocean simulation alone cost around $300 million, and the total development budget estimated between $1 and $2 billion, the project’s scale is unprecedented — and the manpower, entirely justified.
Speculation surrounding GTA 6’s enormous production costs and record-breaking team size has reignited debates about its eventual price point. Some industry figures, including the creator of Saints Row, have even argued that a $100 launch price for Rockstar’s next blockbuster might not be unreasonable given its scope and ambition.
