As the gaming world counts down to what could be the biggest launch in history, fresh uncertainty swirls around Grand Theft Auto VI’s November 19, 2026, release. The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI is starting to feel like an endurance test, and new comments from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier suggest the finish line may still be moving. While fans continue to analyze trailers and screenshots frame by frame, Schreier has cast doubt on whether the game will actually hit its currently planned November release window. Speaking on a recent episode of the Button Mash podcast, Schreier shared fresh insight into the state of GTA 6’s development — and it doesn’t sound like the game is quite ready yet.
According to Schreier, GTA 6 has not yet reached the “content complete” stage. In game development terms, this means Rockstar is still actively finishing missions, polishing levels, and deciding which features and content will ultimately make it into the final build. In other words, the game hasn’t been fully assembled yet.
“The last I heard, the game still wasn’t content complete. People were still wrapping up individual elements, finishing missions and levels, and deciding what actually makes it into the final version,” Schreier explained.
This stage typically comes after “feature complete”, when all major systems are in place, but before full optimization, bug fixing, and final polish. Even then, developers sometimes attempt to squeeze in new ideas — a habit that can easily push schedules back once again. GTA 6’s release timeline has already changed multiple times. The game was originally expected to launch in 2025, then moved to May 2026, and is now officially scheduled for November 19, 2026. However, Schreier cautions that even this date is far from guaranteed.
“Even inside Rockstar, nobody can say with 100% certainty that the game will actually ship in November,” he said.
That said, Schreier notes that this target feels somewhat more realistic than previous ones, suggesting the project is at least moving in the right direction. One thing that hasn’t changed is Rockstar’s philosophy. As Schreier points out, the studio has never been known for rushing releases. For a franchise as massive as Grand Theft Auto, internal pressure appears to favor perfection over punctuality. Rockstar also has some financial flexibility. The company’s current fiscal year runs until March 31, 2027, effectively giving the studio a few extra months of breathing room if November proves too ambitious.
Not everyone shares Schreier’s cautious outlook. Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has stated that he believes Rockstar will release GTA 6 within the year. Tom Henderson has previously discussed projected pricing and even estimated when a PC version of the game might arrive. For now, though, Rockstar itself remains silent — and according to Schreier, even internally, confidence in a November launch is far from absolute. As development continues behind closed doors, GTA 6 remains one of the most anticipated — and uncertain — releases in gaming history. While progress is clearly being made, Schreier’s comments suggest fans should remain prepared for further delays, especially if Rockstar decides more time is needed to meet its famously high standards. Until Rockstar makes its next official move, the marathon wait for GTA 6 is far from over.
