On December 5, Rockstar finally unveiled the long-awaited GTA VI announcement, releasing the first official trailer for what will be the next chapter in the studio’s globally acclaimed crime-action saga. The company confirmed many of the long-circulating rumors: the story takes place in the fictional U.S. state of Leonida, home to Vice City and several other distinct locations.
The debut trailer introduces two main protagonists — Lucia and Jason — partners in both crime and survival. The pair find themselves caught up in a dangerous situation that forces them to rely on each other to make it out alive. Lucia, notably, marks a historic milestone for the series as its first playable female lead.
The footage highlights stunning visuals, diverse environments, and a level of world detail never before seen in the franchise — from bustling city streets to sweeping rural landscapes. Rockstar claims that GTA VI will be its most ambitious and expansive project to date, both in scale and creative scope.
Ahead of the reveal, fans speculated about the soundtrack choice for the trailer — and Rockstar didn’t disappoint. The debut video features Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road,” setting the perfect tone for the game’s rebellious atmosphere.
According to the official announcement, GTA VI is slated for release in 2025. So far, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are the only confirmed platforms, with no mention of a PC version. Given Rockstar’s history, the PC release is expected to arrive later, following the same pattern as Grand Theft Auto V.
